Moneasa
The balneo-climatic resort of Moneasa has been renowned since the 16th century, mainly due to its mesothermal springs. It was first documented in 1597. The large-scale exploitation of the thermal springs began after 1866, and the most important buildings, such as the bath pavilion, started to be constructed after 1881. The thermal waters have a temperature of 25-32 degrees Celsius and are bicarbonate, calcic, magnesic, sodic, hypotonic waters, all having a beneficial effect in cases of nervous asthenia and ailments of the locomotor apparatus and the peripheral nervous system. This is further enhanced by the pleasant ozonated air of the park surrounding the resort and the nearby forests.
Moneasa's climate is mild due to the shelter provided by the surrounding peaks. Very often in winter, temperature inversion occurs. Cold air accumulates in the depression floor, often dropping below -3°C down to -10°C, while on the high peaks of only 300-400 m, the temperature is 0-5°C. These inversions do not produce excessive frosts, which explains the presence of edible chestnut and wild lilac in the surroundings. The flora is represented mainly by beech and coniferous forests.
