A town located in the center of Romania, between the sources of the Prahova and Timiș rivers, in the Predeal Pass, at the northeastern foothills of the Bucegi Mountains (Southern Carpathians), and the northwestern foothills of the Băiu Mountains (Eastern Carpathians), at an altitude between 1040 and 1110 m, 25 km south of Brașov municipality, 147 km from the capital of Romania, Bucharest; population 7949 inhabitants (as of July 1, 1991).
A national importance rest resort, accessible in all seasons. Predeal is a well-known center for winter sports. Tonic-stimulant mountain climate, with cool summers (average temperature in July is 15°C) and cold winters (average in January is below -5°C). The annual average temperature is 5°C and the average precipitation is 1000 mm per year. The snow layer lasts over 100 days annually. Clean air, without dust and other allergens, rich in ozone and ultraviolet radiation, ionized atmosphere and relatively low air pressure are the main cure factors recommended in the treatment of neurasthenia, for revitalizing weakened organisms, for recovery after physical or intellectual overexertion, for the treatment of endocrine disorders and children's growth problems.
