Description

ROYAL CASTLE OF SĂVÂRȘIN, Săvârșin, Arad, Romania
The most important commune in the eastern part of the Mureș Valley is Săvârșin.

In the center of Săvârșin stands the castle. On the site of the current building was, in the 18th century, the castle of the noble Forray family.

Rebuilt at the beginning of the 19th century in neoclassical style and provided with an upper floor and a beautiful balcony, the castle building underwent multiple interior and exterior transformations over the decades.

Having had several owners over time, the castle was destroyed twice: first during the 1784 uprising and second during the 1848 revolution. The neoclassical-style building, as it appears to us today, dates from the mid-19th century. The main entrance, visible from the European Road, is flanked by four columns supporting the balcony of the central apartment on the upper floor. The simple architecture, devoid of unnecessary ornaments, reinforces the romantic and at the same time mystical air of the castle.

Returned to the Royal Family four years ago, after being renovated and refurnished, the Royal Castle of Săvârșin has been open to visitors since August 20. From this date, the ground floor and one wing on the upper floor can be visited and rented, and the rental spaces will expand as they are rehabilitated.

Each room of the Castle is painted in a different color. The furniture is that commissioned by the royal family, and the positioning of each element is approximately the same as 60 years ago, when it was last redecorated.

The 'Pink Bathroom Bedroom' preserves, in the bathroom, the sanitary objects made of pink Florentine faience. The 'Blue Room' is furnished in the Art Nouveau style of the 1920s, recreating the royal atmosphere of those years. Only the furniture in the central apartment, the one preferred by the former dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu, is new.

Before returning the Castle to the tourist circuit, its park, over 400 years old and covering an area of eight hectares, was transformed in the English style, meaning that now wildness and organization blend perfectly here.

A very large financial effort was made for the front lawn. In the middle of the current lawn there was a basin, around which some trees were planted, completely out of place. The restoration cost approximately 10,000 euros. This meant cleaning the park, changing the soil and planting the grass.

The paths in the park, which the king never wanted to be paved with concrete, have been redesigned with slag or sand. The stairs descending to the lake are made of wood. The three bridges are made of birch wood, and the island in the middle of the lake is made of rammed earth and grass.
