Hotel Imparatul Romanilor was founded in 1773 and is the most important hotel in Sibiu. On the site of the existing hotel there was an inn dating from 1555 called "La Sultanul turcilor" ("At the Sultan of the Turks"), a name that changed many times. The current hotel building dates from 1895 and has a facade with numerous decorations and ornaments from different styles.
Under the first-floor windows are carved mascarons, and above the entrance to the restaurant is the figure of an emperor. Fully renovated years ago, the hotel offers modern comfort without losing the charm of the past.
All 90 rooms are equipped with a color television, bathroom or shower, and wireless internet.
SPA! Recently, a pool together with two saunas (dry and steam) has also been made available to guests.
In its more than 200 years of existence, the hotel has hosted an impressive number of personalities, such as Franz Liszt, Johann Strauss, Johannes Brahms, Emperor Joseph II of Austria, King Charles XII of Sweden, Mihai Eminescu, Mrs. Danielle Mitterrand; it has also hosted two German presidents, Roman Herzog and Karl Carstens, and Prince Charles.
